"Breaking the Rules" Designs

Breaking the Rules . .

"Strange Carafes" by Etienne Meneau

As strange it may sounds, this water container is designed to break the assumption of common carafe: straight cylinder with wide diameter as its base and narrow as the neck. This extraordinary design reminds us of the tube in a chemistry laboratory.

"Pita Bread Pencil Case" by Mohar Design

This design was inspired from Ashantur Jerusalem bread. The design breaks the common perception of pencil case which commonly known to be long shaped with zipper. The bread, though, inedible.

"Silkchair" by Alvi Design

Instead of using cushion as the seating area, they use a complex pattern of silk thread to hold weight. The back and seating area offer a resemblance of the harp. Silkchair is strong and supporting the wight of one person.

"Stradivarius Pool" by Jay Dweck

Jay Dweck wanted to build a pool to his backyard. As a violinist, he came out with a brilliant violin-shaped pool which resembles a Stradivarius Violin. His design breaks the assumption about a common square-shaped swimming pool. The hot tub which act as the violin's chin rest, and the addition of various color of lights make the design looks wonderful and attractive.

"Recycrete" by Gore Design

Gore Design company uses recycled materials to make an eco-friendly sinks. Instead of the usual bowl-shaped or square-shaped sink, Gore Design creates a water-flow-shaped sink. It gives an extraordinary looks design and suitable for those who love classic-style interior.

Picture of the Day #2

Henderson Waves Bridge. . .

This is my first time I went to Henderson Bridge. At first I thought I didn't want to go because it took around 45 minutes to reach Henderson Rd via bus. But, because I didn't have anything to do at home, at the end, I went there with my roommates , Bessica & Angie. We joked around and took pictures on our way to Henderson. We passed lots of tall buildings with wonderful design and that time fortunately the weather was nice. I just realized  that Singapore was very clean and it was nice to take a bus! I like to take a bus, but I don't know which station is the right one.

But something happened after we going out from the bus. We didn't know where is the Henderson Bridge and where to go. After we asked people around there, we just realized that we stopped at the wrong bus station. At the end, we needed to cross the road and walked again to the next station.

On our way to the bridge..
I didn't know what was special about the sign, but I just wanted to take a picture of this!

We could see lots of tall buildings from the bridge!

The lights make it becomes more beautiful!

We waited there to see the sunset! And finally . . .

I took this picture before we went back
The bridge was little bit shaky when the wind blew and it was little bit scary! But overall, I want to go there again.

Tag, You're "It"

My first time play Tag game in public! When the lecturer said we are going to play tag game in the public, I was like "what?! nonsense!" How can we play this game in public?!
At the end, we decided to go to Dhoby Ghaut MRT. It was so embarrassing. But after we finished the game, it was so funny looking at how they look at us with that various expressions. I thought we will get cursed, but it's not. I considered a lot when I wanted to touch them because they look so busy.

This is our notebooks. We discuss with each other about the topics. Speaking english is like challenge for me because it isn't my mother language. Although I learn english at school, it doesn't mean that I can speak english fluently. I would like to learn other languages such as korean and chinese. Although I have learn chinese for quite a long time, but I think my Korean is better. When I arrived in Singapore, I felt like I was in China too because lots of people speak chinese rather than english.
After all, studying in singapore is good because their school quality and their lecturer are good.

Picture of the Day #1

Hallo! This is my second day at NAFA! This is the first time in my life to be in the same group with people from different countries. I get to meet Singaporean, Korean, Malaysian, Chinese, and many others. Lots of people said that being a college student is so stressful. They always said that high school period is the best. There is time where we can play freely, do whatever we want, eat everything which is delicious, and many others. But after I start my first class at NAFA, I think it is not 100% true. Although there are lots of things to do, but I think college life is quite interesting. I learn something that I never done before. For example, sketching using straw and deep it into ink. WOW! It is really interesting but annoying too! I never imagined that we can use straw as tools for drawing. It was really hard to control the straw to make the ink comes out. Whenever I try, the ink never came out. It made me stress!
There are lots of things that I never seen before, such as bamboo stick, willow charcoal, putty rubber, and others. I got confused when I saw the lists and need to ask the shop staff where is it and which one because there are lots of similar thing but different name.

This is what my notebook looks like. So messy! I draw other things when there is empty space in my notebook.
This is the other pages. Prefer to draw the objects rather than write the name of the tools.

This is when I have the 3D Fundamental class. I like this lesson because we'll learn how to make 3D. Although I take fashion design, I would like to learn other course too. The lecturer is so kind and she explained what we are going to do. Although it is quite confusing, but I'll do my best.

Learn some Chinese character with my roommate while doing other homework.

Creative Thinking! Think out of the box!

Tim Brown: Tales of creativity and play

Through this video we can learn and know more deeply about creativity and play.

When we hear "creative", one word that comes to our mind is "idea". A unique, wonderful, and new idea is what we need to become creative. of course to create a new idea we must have lots of experiences. Through experience, we can think much and do lots of things. Brave and confidence are what we need to gain more knowledge and experience in our life. But, for the introvert character, they tend to be more shy and exclude themselves from their surroundings. Most of those people especially for adults, they feel embarrassed with their own idea and afraid of judgements from their peers.
These problems cause people to become conservative to their own idea. Compared to children, when they are young, they happily show everything they did to other people without being embarrassed. Adults become more sensitive and emotional towards what other people think.

Playfulness is something that all people need and not only for children. Playfulness is important because it gives creative solutions and relieved all pressure that we have.

There are various ways on how people try to create physical objects. One of those is through building prototypes. All modern things that we used nowadays are from those prototypes. For example, computer mouse, nursing tools, etc. Besides physical objects, we can become a more creative people if we put ourselves into our own creation, called as role-play. By acting it out, we can know how it feels and what is happening. So, our design will be a successful project.

As conclusion, both playfulness and creativity have a great connection. Playfulness can be taught, but creativity is something that we need to learn and try to think out of the box.
