Review about Creative Thinking (Week 11)

Well, we have come to the end of our Creative Thinking lesson because next week is week-12, our assessment week, so we don't need to come to school. That is what all students hope from school. Ok, I had lots of fun during the lesson because the lecturer was fun and interesting. I like it when he teased other foreign students in our class, especially the Korean student, yeah I'm mentioning Seulong now. Haha. I absolutely know he was joking and tried to make the whole class brighter because the class start quite early at 9am and some of them still in their dreamland.

Let me talk about the lessons. Well, there is 1 out of those tasks that we did which I will never forget it, the tag game in public! Omg just imagine it I feel so embarrassed and I promise myself to not ever play it in public! I already 17 year old but I still playing tag game? Ok, but truthfully it was fun! Although it was embarrassing, if you want to learn to be confidence and brave, I suggest you guys to play this game many times. I'm just kidding!
Basically, I learn lots of things from creative thinking lesson, such as brainstorming, mind mapping, break the rules, analogical thinking, force connection, etc. I feel both lateral thinking and force connection are interesting because in force connection I saw lots of novel and unique things which some of them I never see it before and through this, I learn how to think to create things with combining two or more functions into one objects, while through lateral thinking I indirectly learn how to think out-of-the-box and come up with creative results.

Truthfully, I do like how our lecturer explained the lessons and how he connected it with our daily experiences, but I don't really like the lesson. Maybe I will give score 6 out of 10? In my point of view, I just feel like some of the tasks are too complicated and sometimes I feel like there is no connection with our lesson, or maybe I'm the only one who think about that? Btw, this is my true feeling,ok! Truthfully, I'm a person who doesn't really like a group work. Instead of saving times, we just waste more times when doing a group work, because we need to hear other people's opinions and discuss with each other then later on come up with the results. I do agree that we could learn lots of things from the group work  and the results are better rather than the individual works. Yeah, but still, I more prefer to do the individual works, no matter how difficult and how much it is.

I hope the next lesson will be more fun and less homework please, although I know it is impossible. And the lecturer will be funnier and nicer. Yeah, I just hope everything the best for the future lesson. Overall, I hope all things that I learn from creative thinking lesson will be useful and I could apply it on my future design.

Thank you for reading~ ^^
Bye bye~~

Reflection of Felix Thorn Documentary

Felix Thorn
Well, I just thought he went crazy but his idea and creativity was amazing! He tried to make how to perform music without people playing but just with computer, and he made it. When I saw this, it reminds me of the Japanese character, Hatsunemiku (I don't know how to spell because I'm not their fans), they used like a projector to create all the characters and only the guitarist, drummers, etc on the stage. Just looking at that it makes me think that they are crazy because they are cheering and screaming to nothing and keep swinging their hands with holding light sticks.

In my opinion, by creating these computer music, I think it will be very amazing to perform on stage with the addition of the LED lights it makes the whole stage looks classic and elegant. Therefore, the audiences will enjoy and adsorb his music. By looking at his new idea, could I be able to create something amazing like that? I hope I could.

Overall, it was such a crazy yet creative idea that I ever seen. It produces acoustic noises with only using ordinary objects. Cool~!

Reflection of Fitbit Force

Fitbit Force
Well, when I first saw this design, I just thought it was a simple watch wrist-band. But actually, there were lots of functions in it. It was just so cool that this wrist-band also could count how many stairs we climbed. When talked about distance traveled and calories, it reminds me of treadmill which also include those data. In my imagination, it was like an evolution from a heavy-big-treadmill into a light-small-wrist-band. The most unexpected thing is that it also received alerts for incoming calls. Although it only applied for iPhone running iOS7 or higher, but it really looks like a very advantages devise. It was like the changes from the very old-model phones into a very modern phones which could access all PC apps. The design is also very simple and classic, so that we can match it with our clothing styles.

Force Connection 2 (Week 10)

Well, this week we learned again about Force Connection. In class, our lecturer gave us class activity in group to create either a toy or a kitchen appliance. My group chose the kitchen appliance and came out with "Temperature Chopstick". It is called as a temperature chopstick because the function is to measure the temperature of foods that we want to eat and as well as a chopstick. This appliance is for all ages group who really like to use chopstick. It is useful because we already know the temperature before we eat. There is always this small accident like we don't know that the foods are still hot and we directly put it inside our mouth then we feel like we put our mouth in a fire. Therefore, to avoid this accident, we came with "Temperature Chopstick". For the design, there is nothing special, just adding the digital temperature at the end of the chopstick. The chopstick is a metal chopstick, so the heat of the food from the tip could vine till the other end of the chopstick.

Then, for the toy design, this is what I made , "Panda's Neck Pillow Doll"

Doll can be counted as toy, right? This is a panda doll which at the back there is a zip. When the zip is opened, it serves as a pouch to wrap the panda doll and there are straps which we can hold and it serves like a bag. When you wrap the doll, there are somethings which pop out at both right and left side to serve as a neck pillow.
This design is for both toddlers and those who already enter a primary school. It can be also for teenagers because it serves as a neck pillow. This design is very useful because when you bring your daughter, she can bring along the doll to play with and when you are tired, there is a neck pillow for you.
Those circles are what I'm talking about. These things will pop out then it serves as a neck pillow. I don't know how to say it in English, so I just search the picture and circle it.

Picture of the Day #10

Chinatown Mid-Autumn Festival
Last Sunday, me and my friends went to Chinatown to look at the mid-autumn festival. This is my second times I went to a festival without my parents and only with my friends. I just felt something different if I went with my family rather than with friends. Usually, when I went with my family I just felt comfortable and I chit-chat a lot with my brother. It can be said that I spent lots of my time chit-chatting with my brother instead of with my parents. Haha. But, compared hang out with friends, sometimes I don't know why but I felt insecure especially when we came back almost at 11pm. Personally, I never hung out till that late, usually I already at home before 6pm. So, I guess I need to adapt with my new life now. Hahaha.

Well, after we arrived in Chinatown, the first thing that we did was ate our dinner. I didn't take picture because this is not the food blog, so I just enjoyed my dinner. When I finished my food, suddenly there were 2 people sat in front of us and asked something to my friend. I didn't hear what she said, because my friend couldn't understand Chinese, so she answered "English please?" and unfortunately those 2 people also couldn't speak English. Then, when I looked at them, the other person which was a boy, asked me again in Chinese, I didn't know what exactly he meant, but I just guess because from those long sentence I only understand the word "this food" and "behind". With the addition of his gesture, I guessed he asked "are you buy these food from behind this installation?" and I said Yes, then he nodded and left. Through this, I now understand how important body language is when you communicate with foreigners.

After we finished, we wandered around and stopped at like a tattoo shop(?), like the one those Indians draw on their hands. It costed 5 dollars and lasted for 2 weeks. Then, my friend who is Chinese wanted to try. I took a picture during the tattoo making.
It really looks so pretty.
I didn't really enjoy the festival, you know why? Because of this!
Short People Problems~~
Truthfully, I couldn't see anything that time, I just took this picture while straighten my hands. =="

There were a rap performance, I didn't know who was that but my friend said he was the most famous rapper in Singapore and I already forgot his name. Ok, we tried to stand as close as possible to the stage and there was a big space in front of the big speakers and my friend stood in there. I just felt they were so stupid, after around 3 seconds they came back and said that they understood why there was a big space there! HAHA!
There was a performance which they played instruments with their hand. I wondered if they didn't hurt themselves, but they really enjoyed their performance.

I found something unique, there were a group of people taking photos, but the one who held the phone was a little boy kid. He even managed those people where should they stand and what should they pose. It was so funny and amazing!

He even knew how to set the phone ! Wow~
This was one of those unique costumes
Lastly, there were fireworks as the ending of the festival.

Well, I enjoyed the festival but it was not like what I expected. I'm type of person who doesn't like crowded places.Overall, the festival was nice and I could make this as my new experience. Unfortunately, all of them spoke Chinese, so I didn't understand what they were talking about and laughed when others were laughing. Hahaha.

On our way to Chinatown.

Lots of lanterns~

The big lanterns
Cute lanterns~ Hahaha

Reflection of BBC Documentary

Truthfully, I really don't understand what the documentary is about and when I saw the video was almost 1 hour, I was like "what? Oh okay.. No comment." Well, I will try to write anything what I get from this documentary.

By doing different and unusual things, we could gain more creativity because we break up our usual pattern and our routines. Our right brain is more active in solving problems compared to the left brain. Our right brain obviously catch any information quickly and think more creatively.
In a nutshell, creativity is a skill which our brain works by itself to create something unique and new to our environment.

Reflection of "Shawn Achor: The happy secret to better work"

Shawn Achor

Well, in this video, he argued about what people saying, "If you work harder, you will be more successful, and if you become more successful, then you will be happier" and proved that we could change the formula of successful. I strongly agree when he showed a graph with one dot above the average curve and said that we need to be more than average - just like that one dot - because normal means merely average and if we just learn something merely average, we will remain merely average.
In my opinion, the more we grow, the more we learn something new, and through these experiences we receive tons of new and unique things which we need to learn  more in-depth rather than just look at it and ignore or even delete it.

In some section of his talk, he mention that the way to become happy is not to become successful, but how we could train our brain - journaling our experiences, meditation, and exercise - to think positive instead of negative. If we think positive, our intelligence raise, we work faster and more creative.

In a nut shell, happier can be reach if we try to think more positive and learn from something odd and try not to delete it.

Picture of the Day #9

Well, I really looked forward on this last 2 weeks for drawing fundamental. It is about the human proportion. I did learn about human proportion before I came to here, but I didn't learn in-dept about it, just to the extend of knowing it. During this week lesson, I learn how to draw a mannequin directly from the real mannequin, not from a photo. Actually, I usually draw from pictures and almost never draw directly from the real thing, and now I need to draw a real person without photos. I also curious about the result haha.
My first attempt on drawing mannequin
This is my second attempt. I think the more I draw, the more I shorten the legs. Haha
Then this is my third attempt. Again, I think I shorten the legs again.
Even shorter than my second attempt.
Well, after the mannequins, we started to learn a real person and Bryson, Haelyn, Darren, and Nadia were our class model. They posed in their own way, and we drew them in within 10 minutes. And this is my result.
Yes! This is Bryson. I think I need to apology to him HAHA.
And this one is Nadia.

Yes, as u can see from the earring this is Darren

This one is Haelyn. This is my first attempt and I didn't know how to draw the face, so I made it blank. Haha.
Then, for our A3 assignment, we need to draw a person proportion. Ok, I never tried it before. I always draw until their shoulder. I haven't decide what I want to draw, but I really want to try this one

Force Connection 1 (Week 9)

Force connection is a different way of describing things where the object consists of two different things. The combination of 2 different things produce a new object with mind-blown design and multi-functionalities. Well, force connection help us to think creatively or to think out-of-the-box indirectly because it forces our mindset to think not in a common ways, but in different perspectives. First time when I heard about Force connection, I had no idea about what it is about, but after I read the description, I think it is similar with juxtaposition, isn't it?

Well, during this lesson, we did our group class exercise about find a design which apply two different things. This is what I found.

 A USB bracelet
A key ring
This is other design which combine two different things into one object.

An umbrella tie.

Analogies (Quick Quiz)

I have just done the analogies quiz just now and I don’t have idea about what should I write in here. Well, in this quiz, I need to analyse the question whether it is related to each other or opposite each other. I did mistake in some question and the description really help me to understand it. I ever did this kind of quiz during IQ test in my school and the score was only 115. Okay, I don’t know what should I say about this but I don’t care, it was only a score, right? Hahaha.

There are questions like, Cup is to coffee as bowl is to soup, it means we pour coffee into a cup and as bowl, we pour soup into a bowl. My problems during answering these question were I didn’t understand some of the vocabulary. Therefore, I need to use google translate. In this case, I really hope that I was born in country with English as their mother tongue so I don’t have problems with English. By the way, I want to thank uncle google! Haha.

Overall, through this quiz, I learn how to analyse things, not only look at it, but observe it.

Reflection of "Analogical Thinking Introduction" videos

Truthfully, I really don't understand about the video. After I watch this video, the first sentence that come into my mind is "So what?" and now I'm going to write something about this video.
In my point of view, through this video, there are actually two advantages that we can get from analogical thinking, such as learning complex things in a simple way and to understand more in-depth about the interconnectedness of ideas.

By learning analogical thinking, we could compare one thing which is complex with other things which have a similar system but in a simpler and logical way of understanding. Some people tend to exactly follow the learning method to understand something while in analogical thinking process, we try to ground breaking those habits and turn it into a more unique way of understanding.
Through this process, we indirectly learn how to connect one idea with other relevant ideas. Analogical thinking is a skill that we can get through a learning process. We learn how to think not in a regular way, but think creatively or out of the box.

In a nut shell, analogical thinking is a skill where all of us can learn and has a positive impact on the way we think and how we relate one thing to others relevantly.

Analogical Thinking (Week 8)

Well, during our lesson today, our lecturer told us to open this website and I was so startled when I read the article. I don't know how can a designer made such kind of design and bravely spread it into the net. In my point of view, this is only base on what he/she think. He/she only describe it base on the differences between the worst things in China and the best things in Hong Kong. Even though some pictures that the designer made was true. I've ever gone to both China and Hong Kong. Even though I'm not really remember how was it, but I really remember that when I went to Hong Kong it was really clean and hot while China was not as clean as Hong Kong because China is more crowded than Hong Kong. But I quite agree with the picture about the toilet.

In my point of view, I heard a lot from my mother and grandmother about taboo things for Chinese because I’m also Chinese, Indonesian Chinese. They said things like don’t ever shake/swing your legs while you’re eating (I don’t even know why), don’t take a picture with only 3 people because the person who stand in the middle will die or get bad luck (I ever tried this before, not only once but more, but nothing happen to me and I’m still here doing my homework and eat delicious food HAHA), and for Chinese number 4, 6, and 13 means bad luck.
For the love character between China and Hong Kong. I don’t bother with it because the problem just about the differences on how they write the character of love. They made it easier in China and still followed the traditional system in Hong Kong. It happens the same in English too, between American English and British English, for instance, ‘colour’ with ‘color’, ‘favourite’ with ‘favorite’, and ‘cab’ with ‘taxi’.
In a nut shell, I put myself in the middle, 50% agree and 50% disagree. In my point of view, this design was based on designer opinion and without any research.

Picture of the Day #8

Well, this picture was taken when our school held a promnite party which the participants were all the year 3 senior high school students. It was really crowded as you can see in the picture and the fact that in my school there were 11 social class and 9 science class. And there were around 50 people in each class, so it was around 1000 students there. All my senior said that it was so amazing and it was a must to join it. But, it wasn't like what I expected. I thought that all the performances would be very marvelous. There were lots of dance and singing performances or even drama. Their performance was like they only practiced 1 time, but in fact they practiced more than 5 times. I didn’t like the way they performed. Some of them danced with no energy and half-hearted. Even when they did mistakes, they really made it obvious through their expression. Even though they are not professional, I thought they must did their best to make the party successful. However, the worst part was when it was my class’ performance, while my friend played guitar, the sound suddenly didn’t come out because they didn’t plug in properly. At the end, my friend just sang without any music. Overall, I did enjoy the party, but I was little bit disappointed because of the staffs there. I hope that in the next year promnite they will manage it properly.

Reflection of Seth Godin - How to get your ideas to spread?" and "Amy Tan - Where does creativity hide?"

Amy Tan - Where does creativity hide?
Seth Godin - How to get your ideas to spread?
This both videos have their own characteristic as Seth Godin talked about how to spread your ideas which was a very crucial thing to promote your own products, while Amy Tan talked about her own creative process where she got her ideas from her past experiences. As what Seth Godin said "ideas that spread, win." In this case, I strongly agree in his statement. Regardless of what we did, even though it was very creepy or freak, if the ideas was spread then the products will success. We need to create something which is remarkable so that it will attract people's attention. Something which is common, when we look at it, we will just pass by and won't think more about it because we bored of it. As well as Amy Tan, nature, nurture, and nightmares. From all these three aspects we could get our inspirations. Experience is important because we could get lots of marvelous ideas through experience. Every moment that we did in our childhood, it is all valuable in our future where we can recall to it and receive what we want to get.

Movie Review about Battle Royale

Yesterday I watched the movie with my friend and it was really crazy! I felt like I was watching a horror movie because even the introduction and the back sound of the movie was little bit scary. I'm not a person who could bear to watch bloody or even psycho movie. I will close my eyes or even screaming while those action - chop off the head, squirting blood, etc - appear. There is one scene where the necklace that they use exploded when one boy started to argue with the teacher. It was really disgusting. Even when the game just started where only some of the student went out from the class, one or two people already died. In this game, thrusting people is the most difficult thing to do. Even if she/he is your best friend, you will never know whether she/he will protect you till the end.

This is some of the weapons that is used in the movie :
  • hand ax
  • archery
  • sickle
  • shotgun
  • two hand grenades
  • a pot lid
  • nunchaku
  • stun gun
  • machine gun
  • binoculars
  • megaphone

I imagine if I was in that situation and play the game, I'm sure that I will not be the one who survive. But I think that Sylviana will survive, because in my point of view she is like a person who has a strong and brave personality and not fickle-minded. I imagine the situation will be like the three of us - me, sylviana, and mei qi - are the only one left at the game, then while we are still  compromise how we could end this game, is it possible if three people survive or not. Then Sylviana secretly take her weapon and shoot me and Mei Qi, then she becomes the winner. The reason why Mei Qi will be the three persons left is that she is kind and innocent, so when she meet other people, they will let she go and survive. This is based on my imagination. :)
