About simile, metaphors, and analogies

Simile, metaphors, and analogies are used to describe objects with such an interesting way such as compare objects with other objects directly or even indirectly. This is not a new way of describing things because all of us ever did these method of describing things, but we didn't aware.
These method are really important especially for artists and designers. As a designer, the need to present their new design interestingly to attract their clients. Most of them use these way of describing to describe their works.

Simile and metaphors are not the same, but quite similar. Simile is used to describe things by comparing one thing with other thing indirectly while metaphor is used to describe things by comparing one thing with other thing directly. It means that in metaphor, we assume one thing as same as other thing.
For example : - simile : life is like a roller coaster
- metaphor : life is a roller coaster

Analogies are divided into four such as, personal analogy, direct analogy, symbolic analogy, and fantasy analogy.

Personal analogy is we imagine ourselves as the object itself. Imagine if we are a nail, how do we feel if being hit everyday and every time. This is how we are going to describe one thing through personal analogy.
Direct analogy is we describe a thing by comparing it with other things. For example, chili tastes hot. We can compare the taste of chili with a fire. Fire is hot. Hot from chili can be compared with hot from fire.
Symbolic analogy is we compare one thing with other things which has the same progress.
Fantasy analogy is we imagine the way of solving method according by our own imagination. For example, we are in rush but we stuck in a traffic jam. What should we do to arrive on time in this situation? In this case, I personally hope that our car has wings and fly just like a unicorn in barbie movie.

My Point of View about this Lesson

In this lesson, I thought like I was in English tuition. Even though it is important, but that is what I think about this lesson. It reminds me of my school time where I learn all these topics in both English and Bahasa lessons. I understood about what is simile and metaphors while for analogies, it is quiet complicated so that I need more time to understand this topic. During our lesson, our lecturer took a chair which has a green color like an army color on the seating area and he said about grapes as an example of simile and metaphors. Through his examples, I understood more in-depth about what is simile and metaphors. He also gave us class activity such as find pictures in net which apply those four analogies on it. This is what I found during the class activity.
